Summary
This novel is about a rich young girl, Sara Crewe, who moved in from Bombay to London for school. Her father decided to let her study in Miss Minchin Select Seminary for Young Girls. Miss Minchin, the owner of the school, at first was kind to Sara because she is a one good gold digger. She wants to ensure Captain Ralph Crewe, Sara's father, that he picked the right school for Sara.. Years passed, Sara became the "show pupil" of her school. She is one of the most popular student's in Miss Minchin's school because aside from her riches, she is also intelligent, she speaks fluent French and she is very kind unlike the past "show pupil" Lavina. Her extravagant birthay celebration began, and Miss Minchin was called for a conference with Mr. Barrow, Ralph Crewe's lawyer. Mr. Barrow told Miss Minchin that Ralph Crewe died. Immediately after Mr. Barrow spoke with her, she interrupted her birthday party and told her to leave the room as soon as possible and live in the right hand attic of the seminary. She took all away her belongings, except for Emily, Sara's precious doll. Miss Minchin gave Sara household chores, gave her unjust responsibilities and made her live in a filthy room, which is the right hand attic. Beside her room lives another young maid named Becky. They became friends and they became one as they face challenges inside the seminary. But even though life is hard inside Miss Minchin's seminary, Sara still manages to smile. Until one day, a lascar's monkey came in to Sara's attic. The owner of the monkey also went inside Sara's attic and met her. This event lead to the meeting of Tom Carrisford an Sara. While talking to Sara, he realized that Sara is Captain Ralph Crewe's daughter. He gave Sara Ralph's riches and Sara became wealthy again, leaving Miss Minchin's seminary. Miss Minchin begged Sara to stay, but she refused. Becky became Sara's servant and came with her with Tom Carrisford back home again.
